Beginner's Guide To Ball Gags

If you’ve ever thought to yourself, ‘what is a ball gag?’ then look no further. The UberKinky Beginner’s Guide to Bondage Gags will help you tell the difference from a ball gag to a bit gag and how your sub can grab your attention if they’re gagged. We’ll go through the different types of gags as well as common materials. You will also find helpful safety advice and things to remember when playing with bondage gags.

The ubiquitous rubber ball gag has been seen in so many fetish scenes and films, it’s become a staple of BDSM. Bondage gags are used for many reasons. Some use gags to keep noisy submissives quiet during impact play or torture. Some prefer the control or humiliation. There are even medical style gags which help keep the mouth open for various reasons. Gags won’t make your submissive completely silent but they certainly won’t be able to speak.

safety

Safety First!

As with any bondage gear, there are things to keep in mind for safety’s sake. First and foremost, because the point of using a gag on a submissive is to keep them from speaking you will need to find a new way for them to use their ‘Safe word’. Communicate with your play partner to find what’s best for both of you. Common ways of using non-verbal safe words are snapping fingers, having your sub hold a ball and drop it when they want the scene to end or honking a bicycle horn. Some will employ blinking three times as a signal to stop.

For beginners, it’s best to take things slow and perhaps start off with a time limit to get them used to being gaged. A Dominant should always periodically check in on their sub and a gagged person should never be left alone. Going too fast too soon could lead to excessive jaw pain, panic or overstimulation of the gag reflex.

types

Types of Bondage Gags

There are so many different kinds of bondage gags and the list could go on forever. We’ve chosen the most commonly found bondage gags and explained a little about each for a better understanding.

Ball Gags

Ball Gags

Your basic ball gag is a spherical shaped gag which is placed in the mouth behind the teeth and strapped into place behind the head. This type of bondage gag will make it very hard for your submissive to make any coherent speach and may cause quite a bit of drooling.

Bit Gags

Bit Gags

A bit gag is a cylindrical shaped gag made from rubber, leather or plastic worn similar to a horse’s bridle. Bit gags are used by placing them between the submissive's teeth and held in place with either adjustable straps or a head harness. This will make speaking unintelligible. Some bit gags will feature reigns for use in pony play.

Forniphillic or Dildo Gags

Forniphillic or Dildo Gags

Used to humiliate or objectify your submissive, the forniphillic gag holds a tool or device of some sort which the wearer controls with their mouth. Ashtrays, toilet brushes, boot brushes and feather dusters have been popular choices but the most common is the dildo gag. The dildo gag allows the wearer to pleasure their partner while making their genitals obsolete.

Inflatable Gags

Fully adjustable for a custom fit, inflatable gags start off small and slowly fill your submissive's mouth. This latex inflatable balloon which can be round or penis shaped, is placed in the slave's mouth and then pumped up with the hand held inflation bulb to the desired size. In the case of the butterfly gag, the bulb goes behind the teeth while the ‘wings’ go between the front of the teeth and the inside of the lips. Some inflatable gags come with an adjustable strap while others can be held in place with a ring gag.

Materials

Materials

Bondage gags come in all kinds of materials depending on how you will be using your gag. There are waterproof gags common in watersports play made from plastic, silicone and even metal. These three materials can be sterilised between uses so they’re perfect if you plan on using your gag on more than one submissive. Leather, rubber, pvc and rope are porous so they are best to use on one person only yet are just as effective. There’s even a ball gag with a jawbreaker candy as the gag!
